Our Mission Statement

Dedicated to enhancing community welfare, we provide essential support to local registered charities and voluntary groups, ensuring a thriving and resilient Beeston for all residents.

"Celebrating Beeston" (The Icons Mural): Painted in 2018 by the artist Zabou, this was a flagship piece for the Beeston Street Art Project. It was commissioned by Broxtowe Council to celebrate local legends: actor Richard Beckinsale (Porridge), soul star Edwin Starr ("War"), and world-famous designer Sir Paul Smith.

Beeston Community Resource CIO (BCR)

In April 2015, Beeston Community Resource CIO (BCR) took over the management of Middle Street Resource Centre, Beeston, from Nottinghamshire County Council, who had decided that they would no longer operate it themselves. The Centre was for many years a mental health day centre, and BCR was established by a group of users and supporters who decided it must survive to serve the many people who rely on it for support.

Initially, we could not afford to employ staff and everything was done by our trustees and other volunteers. This was unsustainable in the longer term, and we were rescued by two three-year grants, the largest of which was from Beeston Consolidated Charity (BCC), supporting our manager’s and development officer’s salaries.

We have been incredibly grateful to continue to receive grants from BCC, in the following years, as this has contributed to our charity’s salary costs for the management team and our mental health support workers. Being supported in this way provides a base of financial certainty, upon which we’ve been able to make successful funding applications to other funders. Without the support of BCC, and these other funders, the following community endeavours would not have been possible:

The majority of our patrons are from the Beeston locality and many of the c.3,000 monthly visits to MSRC are from people who are in need, hardship, or distress. People seeking our charity’s support include those who have lived experience of mental health issues, disabilities, long-term health issues, are trying to cope financially on low incomes, and are socially disadvantaged. The cost of living crisis and long-term effects of the COVID pandemic have, in recent years, caused increased demand for our charity’s support; a 10% year on year growth in our most recent visit numbers.

Members of the local community who have been struggling to deal with the personal aspects of global and national events have benefitted from our therapeutic groups, cost of living courses, 1:1 mental wellbeing support, and appropriate signposting to other support organisations.

Those patrons who have been affected by social isolation and loneliness have found benefit in attending our community café; a warm and safe space where they can meet friends and family and socialise with the wider community, helping people to maintain independence and benefit from the known link between food and mood. The local community can also use our improved community garden at MSRC. It provides an accessible outdoor social space, and areas for quiet contemplation, for people who may not otherwise be able to safely access the benefits of nature and being outdoors. It is also used for community events, including celebrations and the Beeston & Chilwell Garden Trail, bringing local people together to socialise and combat loneliness.

We have continued to focus on encouraging patrons to undertake volunteering, as it is a proven route to give people a sense of purpose and contribution to the community, which is vital for improving mental wellbeing. Many of our patrons have become volunteers with the charity, working in the garden, café, reception, running our social media, or driving the minibus. By offering volunteering opportunities, we’ve helped individuals to enjoy their community and grown their confidence and belief in their abilities. Our work with volunteers and the hard work and dedication of the 50-strong volunteering community at MSRC has been recognised through the King’s Award for Voluntary Services being bestowed upon the charity and its volunteers. We are extremely proud to have been awarded this highest accolade for voluntary organisations in the UK.

We thank BCC for their continued support in providing a framework upon which we’ve been able to build this vibrant, successful, and much-needed community resource.

Hope Nottingham

Beeston Consolidated Charity’s ongoing support for Hope Nottingham has enabled us to continue our vision of Inspiring and Growing Communities of Hope here in Beeston. Hope House on Boundary Road has grown to become a vibrant community hub, not only hosting our Beeston food bank but also offering a place of welcome, care and support for local people in need. Whether through our community café, foodbank, onsite advice provision, job clubs, literacy and ESOL groups, community allotment, toddler group, youth wellbeing café, friendship club or regular community meals, Hope House provides a place of safety, belonging and community.

Financial support from Beeston Consolidated Charity helps fund our Support Manager role - overseeing our Beeston-based community activities which support local people in need. Funds have also very kindly been given to support with our monthly community meal events. In addition, Beeston Consolidated have provided much needed support to individuals and families we have worked with who have been struggling faced with serious and complex situations.

We are hugely grateful for the support of Beeston Consolidated Charity as we continue to offer holistic help in order to bring hope to those who need it most.
